Solar energy is powering homes and streetlights, increasing access to clean, reliable electricity for remote communities in the foothills of the Torricelli Mountain Range. This has improved livelihoods and created economic opportunities. Access to reliable electricity has reduced costs for small businesses and is supporting economic activity among the wider community.
Reliable power for schools, clinics and community centres has improved the quality of education, healthcare and other key services. Solar power is lighting up homes and community spaces, improving safety after dark, especially for women and girls.
And it has reduced the reliance on polluting alternatives, such as burning vegetation and kerosene lamps, cutting carbon emissions.
By bringing renewable, solar energy to remote communities in the Torricelli Mountain Range, the project helped to improve environmental awareness and promoted clean energy practices. This has helped to reinforce the communities’ commitment to conserve their natural environment in line with TCA’s mission: “to save lives in PNG – the lives of people, animals, and their places”.
