Lighting up WASH

Lighting up WASH

This project installed 214 solar street lighting systems and 60 indoor lighting systems around community water stations and kitchen taps in Finschhafen, Morobe Province.

Lighting up water stations and kitchen taps enhances the usability and safety of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) infrastructure, while improving livelihoods in a range of ways.

Increasing lighting at WASH infrastructure makes the infrastructure more accessible, leading to improved personal hygiene, comfort and health outcomes. Appropriate lighting extends the hours that water for drinking, laundry and showering can be accessed. Lighting at these key community points may also facilitate informal activities, socialising and opportunities for income generation.
