Solar energy project ready to light up secondary school in Gulf Province
PKP and the Salesians of Don Bosco brought implementation of the Kisim Lait project a step closer last week with the completion of a 2-day training course for 26 technicians from Construction Electrical Services Ltd. – the project’s installation contractor. The project will install off-grid solar energy systems at Araimiri Secondary School in Kerema District, Gulf Province.
The trainees received technical guidance on installing the new solar systems, backed up by hands-on practical sessions. The training also covered gender equity, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI), child protection and safeguarding, and health and safety considerations. The training aims to ensure installations are carried out safely, responsibly and in line with the needs of the community.
Friar Srimal Silva from the Salesians of Don Bosco said,”It was a privilege to participate in the two-day training. This session provided valuable insights into our partners’ diverse requirements and demonstrated how we can align our efforts to achieve our shared objectives. Ultimately, it underscored the value of collaboration: together everyone achieves more.”
Clean, reliable electricity will improve teaching and learning across the school campus and enable evening study, helping students reach their full potential. Solar energy will power a new computer lab, staff homes, solar streetlights and the school’s aid post.
The Kisim Lait project is one of eight PKP Round 2 projects scheduled for completion by the end of this year.
